Sonja Allen Walker

June 21, 1943 — February 13, 2024

Homerville

On February 13, 2024, Sonja Allen Walker, age 80, suffered a heart attack and died within a few hours after receiving emergency medical care at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. This terrible event has caused great shock to all who knew and loved her dearly.

She was born on June 21,1943, in the charming town of Homerville, Georgia. Over time, she grew to love this very special place and the many wonderful people who inhabited it. Sonja had such deep roots in this community that she actually planned to retire here, which she did. Unfortunately, her return to Homerville only lasted about eight months.

Sonja's beloved parents were Algia Raulerson Allen and James Eddie Allen. Her brothers are Jimmy Allen of Moultrie, Georgia and Mel White of Kentucky.

Christopher Andrew Bonner of Athens, Georgia is Sonja's only child, and he is also her pride and joy.

On April 24, 1982, Sonja and Herb Walker, Sr were happily married, and they lived together in Brookhaven, Georgia for 37 years. At the time of their marriage, Sonja also gained a stepson, Herb Walker, Jr, of Decatur, Georgia. On April 24, 2019, Herb, Sr. died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ironically, this date also happened to be Sonja's thirty-seventh wedding anniversary which was only appropriate since she had dutifully cared for her husband in his hour of need.

In 1961, Sonja graduated from Clinch County High School, and she enrolled at James College in Jacksonville where she earned a two-year degree in medical business management. Upon graduation, Sonja moved to Atlanta where she spent most of her adult life.

Over the years, Sonja managed both billing and insurance claims at some of Atlanta's best medical offices including those at Shallowford Hospital.

However, the medical office that she loved the most was at Atlanta Nephrology where she made many dear, lifelong friends among the staff, doctors, and patients.

Throughout Sonja's life, she was a dedicated and faithful Christian. She was also a long term member of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta where she enjoyed listening to Dr. Charles Stanley, and she rarely missed a Sunday sermon.

Sonja was a true gift from God to all who knew her, and her loss is simply incalculable!
