Malcolm E. Montgomery, Sr., 90, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026. He was many things to those who knew and loved him: husband, father, brother, friend, colleague, a dedicated Georgia Bulldog fan and prodigious story teller. He was all these things and remained active until his last hours.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, 461 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073. Viewing will begin at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral at 10:00 AM. After the service he will be transported to his hometown Homerville, GA for a graveside ceremony at 3:00 PM.
Malcolm was born and raised in Homerville. He graduated from Clinch County High School where he was Senior Class president, lettered in baseball, basketball, football, track and was very involved in many activities. He continued serving as Senior Class president for many decades organizing class reunions. Following high school, he attended the University of Florida for a short time, but deciding that was not his direction he moved to Jacksonville. He had many job experiences over the years including loan officer, plumber, limousine driver and most recently, Alhambra Dinner Theatre greeter/security. The roles may have varied, but he enjoyed meeting people and made many lasting and meaningful friendships with colleagues over the years. The last two roles gave him the opportunity to meet many celebrities and provided him with plenty of riveting stories as they were mesmerized by his southernly gentleman’s charm.
Malcolm was most proud of his large, extended family and loved spending time with them.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for over 45 years, serving in many capacities to the benefit of all he could reach and serve. Malcolm had a wave and a smile for anyone and everyone and every person he met he saw as a new friend.
Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years Elda Montgomery, their children, Dena Willis (Ray), Malcolm Jr. (Dorrie), Darren, Barbara Bailey (Michael) and Denise May (James). He is also survived by his brother David T. Montgomery (Patsy). He was preceded in death by his parents, M. E. “Mr. Mac” and Ruth Montgomery. His legacy includes 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends.
Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
