Ms. Katie Ruth Thompson Griffis, 65, of Homerville, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Hospice Satilla in Waycross following a lengthy illness. Ms. Griffis was born on April 13, 1955 to Henry and Adice Thompson. She was one of eleven children and learned the value of love and family from a very young age. As much as she loved her parents and siblings, the greatest loves of her life called her “Mama” and “Nana.” Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest accomplishment and her source of joy and happiness. Ms. Griffis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Francis Davis; two brothers, Clifford Thompson and Charles Stephens, two nephews, Joseph Thompson and Harvey Adams, and an infant daughter, Sabrina. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle “Missy” and Randy Davis; one son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Laura Nipper; eight granddaughters, Elizabeth and Brian Morris, Dalana and Josh Byrne, Brittany and James Owings, Chesney and Christopher Fredrick, ShiLeigh and John Marsh, Keaton Nipper, Eliza Nipper, and Olivia Nipper; eight great-grandchildren, Alison Byrne, Andrew Byrne, Hadley Byrne, Alexzandria Byrne, Ashton Marsh, Ethan Marsh, Spencer Marsh, Esme Marsh, McKenna Owings, Kaylee Owings, Ryleigh Owings, and Lily Owings; two brothers, H.L. Thompson and Jody Thompson; four sisters, Donna and Jack Mefford, Lillie and Lester Davis, Betty Ann and Louis Bennett, and Jeanette and David Morgan; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services for Ms. Griffis will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 3 p.m. at Booth Cemetery in Manor, Georgia. The family will have a private visitation on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 2 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.net. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
