James A. Butler

Homerville

James Allen Butler, 77, of Homerville passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Clinch Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa to the late Harold and Yvonne Boyd Butler. Mr. Butler graduated from high school in Burlington Junction, Missouri and then joined the military. He retired from the U.S Air Force after serving four tours in the Vietnam War, two with the U.S. Marines and two with the U.S. Air Force. After retirement, they moved to Homerville in 1990. He was a graduate of Okefenokee Technical School and Gwinnett Technical School with a Master Mechanic Degree in the Toyota T10 Program. Mr. Butler was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and enjoyed collecting black powder guns, tinkering on anything with a motor and especially loved to grow roses and read every day.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Boyd and Morris Butler.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Martha Ann Kaney Butler of Homerville; three sons, Gemel Butler (fiancé Robin Twiss) of Homerville, Kenneth Kaney (wife Necole) of Valdosta, and Barry Butler of New York; daughter-in-law, Bridgette Butler of California; six grandchildren, C.J. Thomas and Drew Kaney both of Valdosta, Gardell Butler of Homerville, Bastin Rhone, Chloe Butler, and Jasper Butler all of California; one brother, Joe Butler (wife Diane) of Texas; two sisters, Rita Pierce of New York and Rose Woll of Ohio; sister-in-law, Donna Boyd of Oklahoma; special nephew, Kevin Sargent of Pennsylvania; special niece, Sarah Butler of Iowa; furbabies, Oreo, Patches, Leo, and Nurse Freckles who was by his side since he came home from the hospital.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 19, 2024, from 6 until 8 pm at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

The family may be contacted at the home of Gemel Butler, 161 Old Pearson Rd., Homerville.

Memorialization will be by cremation.
