Harmon Eugene “Gene” Chaney, born in Jacksonville, Florida, in October 1945, passed away early Monday morning, June 8, after a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.
Gene was the beloved son of Dan and Iva Chaney. He was a cherished brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved his family.
On November 29, 1965, Gene married Madeline Anderson, and together they created a life full of laughter and shared memories. Together, they built a family that remained the heart of Gene’s life. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Chaney; his son, Keith Chaney; his grandson, Chance Wilms; and his two great-grandchildren, Trenton and Eli. He also leaves behind two sisters, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Gene moved to Homerville in 2012, where he continued to enjoy life’s simple pleasures and the company of those he loved. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his warm heart, and the deep love he had for his family. His ability to bring a smile to others and his unwavering dedication to those closest to him created lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
Though Gene’s presence will be profoundly missed, the love he shared and the laughter he brought into the lives of others will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A life well lived leaves a legacy of love, and Gene’s legacy will continue through the family he cherished so deeply.
