Georgia Belle Whittington Worthington, 94, of Homerville passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. She was born in Altha, FL to the late John Henry and Flora Edenfield Whittington and lived most of her life in Homerville. She was retired from Standard Container and was a member of Victory Chapel Church of God of Prophecy.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Benjamin “Ben” Worthington; two sisters, Lois Cole and Beulah Laster; five brothers, Houston Whittington, John Whittington, Dee Whittington, J.W. Whittington, and Ralph Whittington; son-in-law, Tom Shoemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Shoemaker of Brunswick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Ocie Worthington of Manor and Edward and Dianne Worthington of Homerville; four grandchildren, Bruce Worthington (Tricia) of Jacksonville, Joelyn Pirkle (John) of Hinesville, Jason King of Brunswick, and Angela Worthington Blitch of Thomasville; six great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Goodwin of Dallas, TX; two sisters-in-law, Christell Whittington of Altha, FL, and Audrey Whittington of Tacoma, WA; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5 pm until 7 pm at Roundtree Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Monday evening, October 9, 2023, at 7 pm at Roundtree Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday afternoon, October 10, 2023, at 2 pm (1 pm Central Time) in Edenfield Cemetery in Altha, FL.
