George Ray Daugharty, Jr., was born May 6, 1940, and passed away Friday, July 23,
2021, at his home after a short illness. He was the son of the late George Ray
Daugharty, Sr. and Wilma Ellington Daugharty of Fargo. Mr. Daugharty grew up fishing
in the Suwanee River and the Okefenokee Swamp, and hunting in the piney woods of
Fargo. He loved to tell stories, fry fish, and made the best pimento cheese. He
graduated from Clinch County High School with the class of 1958. He attended
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia, and raised a family
in Homerville. He was self-employed as the owner of Daugharty Forestry Service and
a part-time farmer. For over forty years he served on the Board of Directors at Slash
Pine EMC and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist
Church and the Upper Room Sunday School Class, as well as the Lake Verne Fishing
and Hunting Club.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Holly Janice
Daugharty (1971-1972), two sisters, Glenice Fogg and Willena Crewe, and one brother
in law, Bill Fogg.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Judi Johnson Daugharty of
Homerville; three daughters, Molly Daugharty of Homerville, Betsy Daugharty Clifton
(Wayne) of Homerville, and Katy Daugharty (Brian Albanese) of Atlanta; three
grandchildren: Holly Haven Mullis, Luke William Daugharty, and Eleanor Judith
Albanese; brother in law Bill Crewe, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11am at First Baptist Church in Homerville.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am at the church.
Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or the United Methodist Church of
Homerville.
