Doris Jeffords Stalvey

March 13, 1927 — July 21, 2025

Homerville

Leila “Doris” Jeffords Stalvey, 98, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025 in Moultrie, GA. Known as Doris, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Born March 13, 1927 in Brunswick, Georgia, she made her way to Homerville with her family as a child. A renaissance woman for the ages, she dabbled in many different fields: she could style hair with the best cosmetologist, she was a photographer, a traveler, and a faithful and inspiring follower of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. She enjoyed westerns and country music, having met some of her favorites- once jumping a chain to kiss John Wayne and again chasing down Burt Reynolds and Lucie Arnaz in a car (both times with her sidekick/daughter, Jeannie.) She traveled to Nashville, Mexico, the Mountains, the beach, and even a few theme parks in recent years. She was a talented seamstress who could rival the threads on the most iconic of runways. And she was an amazing cook, with her signature chicken and dumplin’s, award winning coconut cake, and other unrivaled dishes. But, perhaps, her most important legacy is that of a doting Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and unwavering caregiver.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leila Garren Jeffords Henderson and Harmon Van Jeffords, her husband (her Honey), Milton Stalvey, her beloved son, Elliott Stalvey, her sisters , Naomi Jeffords, Orie Pittman, Evelyn Capan, and Chessie Cullifer, her brothers, Lloyd Jeffords, Jeff Jeffords, H.V. Jeffords, and several more half brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

She is survived by her beloved girls and caregivers, her loving daughter, Jeannie Stalvey and fiancé Darrell Hart of Barwick, GA, her loving granddaughters, Sydney and Savannah Smith of Jacksonville, FL, and her special helper and great-granddaughter, Jordynn Ellani of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Daneen Stalvey of Baytown, TX, grandson, Chris Rivera and wife Jennifer of Kingwood, TX, and several more great-grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews, and other friends and family members.

During her time in Homerville, Doris was a pillar of the community and a dependable and compassionate leader of her family. Doris was a star whose light shined bright throughout those she loved and cherished, and everyone she touched was left for the better. She left an indelible mark and will be forever missed.

A viewing will be held at Lighthouse Assembly of God in Homerville, GA on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 6-8pm, followed by the funeral on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2pm, also at Lighthouse AOG with Rev. Donald Stalvey and Rev. John Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.

Doris loved bright colors, and the family is encouraging those who attend to wear bright colors and scarves in her honor, and as an example of the color she brought to so many lives.
