Deborah Hayes, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted teacher, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Homerville, Georgia, to the late Lorine and Gerald Smith, Deborah lived a life full of love, compassion, and quiet strength.
Deborah was a phenomenal mother and proud wife. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Hayes of Homerville, and their two daughters: Jennifer Murray (Homerville), married to Trey Murray, with whom she shared a cherished grandson, Bruce Murray; and Dana Hayes (Jacksonville). Deborah's legacy also lives on in her sister-in-law Lori Smith (Homerville) and Lori's children, Mary Slusher (Homerville), married to Alex Slusher and mother to Rylee Slusher, and Zeke Smith (Statesboro).
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Greg Smith. While the loss of her presence leaves a hole in many hearts, her warmth, grace, and gentle guidance will be remembered always.
On weekends, Deborah could often be found enjoying her favorite pastime — shopping — and she especially loved time spent with family, whether gathered at home or simply enjoying each other's company. Her ability to love deeply, laugh often, and give selflessly was at the core of everything she did.
Deborah Hayes leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet resilience. She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
