Edith Chloe Smith Cox, 92, of Homerville passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 7, 2024, at Riverbrook Healthcare after a short illness. She was born in Clinch County to the late Sam and Lurena Barlow Smith. Mrs. Cox was a 1949 graduate of Clinch County High School and along with her husband owned and operated Cox Gas Station in Manor for many years. She was a longtime member of Shiloh Church in Homerville.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Franklin Cox; two sisters, Mary Frances McVay and Julia Faye Palmer; one brother, W.J. Smith.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Joyce Cox, Keith and Laura Cox, and Kerry Cox all of Homerville; five grandchildren, Crystal Godfrey, Elizabeth Pittman, Rebekah Cox, C.J. Cox, and Sarah Cox; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning, August 10, 2024, at 11 am at Shiloh Church with Rev. Bruce Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Please note the bridge is out on Shiloh Road. Please turn on Antioch Rd. in Argyle and follow the detour signs to the church
The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10 until 11 am at the church.
