Betty Williams

November 10, 1936 — February 13, 2022

Betty Bregel Williams, 85, of Lakeland passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Lakeland Villa after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Thomas C. Bregel and Elizabeth Truxell Bregel. Ms. Williams moved from Orlando to Homerville in 1977 to buy Bob Williams Ford with her husband which she co-owned 18 years. After leaving the dealership she worked at Tommy Griner Nissan in Valdosta for 13 years until she retired at 72 years old.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Lee McGowan and Eric Bennett; one sister, Dorothy Bregel Greer (Bud); two brothers, William Bregel (Jo) and Thomas Bregel.

Survivors include four children, Terry McGowan (Carmene) of Titusville, FL, Nancy Strickland of Tifton, Mark Williams of Waycross, and Sheri Bennett (George) of Lakeland; five grandchildren, Jamie McGowan of Titusville, FL, Tina Strickland of Tifton, Derek Strickland (Erica) of Homerville, Marisa Williams of Waycross, and Brandi Bennett Cooke (Will) of New Mexico; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A private graveside service was held at Shiloh Cemetery with Rev. W.G. Smith officiating.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Lakeland Villas and Hospice of South Georgia for their loving care.
