Allen Virgil Kennedy, II

Apr 7, 1947 — Oct 21, 2026

Homerville

Allen Virgil Kennedy II passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1947, in Homerville, Georgia, to Bryce and Helen Kennedy. After graduating from Clinch County High School, Allen attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College before transferring to the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. While attending UGA, he became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and met the love of his life, Bebe Coggins of Elberton. Allen and Bebe married on August 15, 1970, and together raised three children: Allen, Lori, and Tom.

Having grown up around the forestry business, Allen founded Kennedy Timber and, throughout his career, planted more than 100 million pine trees across 150,000 acres of land throughout the Southeastern United States. He took great pride in the business he built and was especially proud to pass it along to his sons, Allen and Tom, who continue to operate it today. Retirement, however, didn't stop Allen from offering his sons plenty of unsolicited advice on how to run the business.

Allen was actively involved in his community. Over the years, he served on the Board of Directors of Empire Banking Company, the Clinch County Board of Tax Assessors, and the Clinch County Board of Education. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church of Homerville. He volunteered countless hours to the Clinch County Recreation Department, serving as both a coach and director. During his time with the Rec Park, he played a key role in building new and improved Little League baseball fields, something that has been enjoyed for many years.

Above all, Allen took tremendous pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He is survived by his three children, Allen V. Kennedy III (Kendra), Lori James (Brent), and Tom Kennedy (Emily); five grandchildren, Lily Blitch (Chase), Katie Futch (Ashley), Thomas Kennedy, Taylor Kennedy, and Ella Katherine Kennedy; and one great-grandson, Beau Blitch. He is also survived by his brother, Bryce E. Kennedy, Jr., (Sally) of Tifton, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bebe, and his sister, Joy Kennedy Carter.

Throughout his life, Allen loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed entertaining, traveling, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. But perhaps his greatest joy was the life he shared with Bebe, his devoted wife of 55 years. She loved taking care of him, cooking his favorite meals, and making their house a home. Allen was known to receive the “Sweetest Thing” trophy from Bebe at Christmas, sometimes leaving everyone wondering how he earned it!

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Homerville on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary beginning at 2:00 p.m.
