Robert "Bob" Frank Sessoms

September 23, 1946 — May 7, 2010

Robert “Bob” Frank Sessoms, of Cogdell, Georgia and Keaton Beach, Florida, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at the age of 63. Well known for his jolly demeanor, Bob was born September 23, 1946, in Homerville, Georgia, to the late Alexander and Ann Sessoms. Growing to manhood on the vast timberlands of his family, Bob faced responsibility early in life when he was called upon to help run the family’s lumber company. He attended South Georgia Technical College in Americus, yet the timberlands, fields, and sawmill proved to be all the education any young man could ask for. Alongside his father and older brother, Bob successfully co-managed the family sawmill, Union Timber Company. He also developed his own site-preparation and logging companies, served as a Clinch County Commissioner, and was responsible for establishing Clinch County’s first commercial alligator farming operation. Bob played as hard as he worked. As a small boy, he enjoyed fishing and hunting in the backwoods with his dad, he played football for the Clinch County Panthers and a semi-pro football team while in tech school, coached Pee Wee football, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Bob also dabbled in aviation, but his true love was the sea. Bob was a passionate angler who enjoyed fishing from the coasts of Florida to the reefs of the Caribbean and Mexico. Bob was a big man with a huge heart and a disarmingly friendly nature that drew to him legions of friends. Bob was proceeded in death by his brother, Alexander “Alex” Sessoms, and is survived by his wife of four years, Dawnese O’Steen Sessoms, of Keaton Beach, Florida; a daughter & son-in-law: Sarah Cheri Sessoms (Fred) Ammons, of Byron, Georgia; a step-daughter: Audra Kaye Ancog, of Lynn Haven, Florida; a step-son: Michael Lamar Ancog, of Shady Grove, Florida; a sister & brother-in-law: Joy Sessoms (Johnny) Crumbley, of Cogdell, Georgia; and five nieces and nephews: Kelly (Beth) Sessoms of Mobile, Alabama; Ben Sessoms of Cogdell, Georgia; Kathee Sessoms (Mike) Wilkins of Savannah, Georgia; Carra Crumbley (Russ) Goodman of Cogdell, Georgia; and Juliana Crumbley (Adam) Crane of Wichita, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at three o’clock at the First Baptist Church in Homerville, Georgia. Internment will immediately follow in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Waycross, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church on Monday evening from 6-9pm.
