Ernest Bennett, Sr.

Homerville, GA Mr. Ernest Bennett, Sr., 69, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, in the Shands Hospital, Gainesville, FL, following an extended illness. Mr. Bennett was born April 18, 1947, in Homerville, GA, to the late Redding Bennett and Marie Kight Bennett. He attended the Church of God, was a retired logger and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and U. S. Navy Reserve. He was preceded in death by his wife: Retha Lounell Bennett; four sisters: Daisy Luke, Letha B. Howling, Elma Grant and Thelma Bennett, and one brother: Henry Bennett. Survivors are two daughters: Samantha Sheffield, Homerville and Gloria Lashley, Argyle; one son: Ernest Bennett, Jr., Homerville; two sisters; Alma Backhus, Hahira, and Marylin Swearingen, Homerville; lifelong companion: Glenda Jordan, Argyle; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Bennett will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at two o’clock from the Chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
