Homerville, GA Mrs. Esther Davis Smith, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Clinch Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Smith was born February 24, 1924, in Lowndes County, the 6th of 9 children, to the late Willie B. Davis and Dellar Davis. She was a member of the New Vision Church of God, was retired from Brockway Standard and helped at Roundtree Funeral Home for several years. Before going to work at Brockway, she made dresses for several young ladies in the community. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Smith, one son, Buddy Smith, four brothers, H. C. Davis, Frank Davis, Woodrow Davis and Lloyd Davis and one sister, Tempa Mae Davis. She was a loving & caring mother to her children: Doreen & Jeff James, Lakeland and W. G. & Susan Smith, Homerville; loving grandmother to Chris & Michelle Smith, Valdosta and Stephanie & Demory Godwin, Homerville; her three great grandchildren Rebekah Smith, Walker Godwin and Camlynn Godwin were the apple of her eye; three sisters: Velma Smith, Jacksonville, FL, Grace Tomlinson & Rusha Douglas both of Homerville; several nieces & nephews and other relatives. Services for Mrs. Smith will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009, at eleven o’clock from the New Vision Church of God. Internment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday night from 7 till 9 p.m. Mrs. Smith will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Flowers will be accepted or make donations to the Gideon’s. Roundtree Funeral Home is serving the Smith family.
