Edna Mae Hinson Kirby

September 16, 1919 — November 6, 2014

Homerville, GA Ms. Edna Mae Hinson Kirby, 95, passed into eternal life on Thursday, November 6, 2014 and is now at peace, and free of pain. Edna was born on September 16, 1919 to Jesse Robert Hinson and Maggie Mae Capps Hinson. She is predeceased by her husband, Howard, daughter, Rose Marie Willoughby Sigurdson, grandson, Mark Sigurdson, and newborn grand-daughter, Michelle Kirby. She is survived by daughter, Caroline Minton (Randy) of Orlando, FL, son, Robert Kirby (Beth) of Germantown, MD, daughter, Sandy Quandt (Tony) of Houston, TX, and step-daughter, Patricia Ibison (Buford, GA), as well as 10 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson, 13 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Edna is also survived by her sister, Jeanette Musgrove, sister-in-law Alma Hinson, and several nephews and nieces. Edna was born and raised in Homerville. After marrying Howard in 1946, she traveled with him to many U. S. Naval stations including Puerto Rico and Morocco. Upon retirement in 1972, she and Howard moved to Homerville to make it their home. Edna was an active member of the Homerville First Baptist Church. She was also very involved in her community. Edna served as Chairman of the Clinch County Red Cross Drive, Treasurer of the American Cancer Society, Secretary for the National Association of Federal Retirees in Ware County, member of the Clinch County Women’s Club, Homerville Exchange Club, Clinch County Cultural Arts, active member of the Clinch County Chamber of Commerce where she served two years as Director, was recognized as a Clinch Countian of the Week, and named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Chamber in 1987. Edna truly enjoyed sports. She was a supporter of Clinch County High School sports and a faithful, ardent fan of the Atlanta Braves. As she became unable to attend a CCHS football game, she listened to the radio so she could cheer on the teams. You did not get between her and the TV when the Braves were on; she had her favorites and wasn’t shy about giving her opinion. Edna’s health declined for several years before her death. The family thanks all those who took their mother into their hearts and homes, and made her feel loved and appreciated during her time here on earth. Funeral services for Mrs. Kirby will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at eleven o’clock in the Homerville First Baptist Church. Mrs. Kirby will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Antioch Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, November 10, 2014 from 5 till 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be conveyed at the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.net.
