John Lawrence Peek, Sr.

John Lawrence Peek, Sr., 79, of Homerville died Wednesday morning (May 7, 2014) at his residence. He was born in Manor, GA to the late Lonnie Nathaniel Peek and Kathleen Inman Murphy. Mr. Peek grew up in Manor where he was a member of Zenith Baptist Church. He was retired from the City Highway Department in Jacksonville, FL, Clinch County Board of Education, self employed in the flooring business and owned a service station. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanice Henck; one brother, Lonnie Samuel Peek. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris Hendrix Peek of Homerville; two children, Larry Peek and his wife Barbara of Homerville and Linda Moore and her husband Mason of Homerville; 6 grandchildren, John “J.B.” Peek and his wife Samantha of Homerville, Jason Peek of Homerville, Lorinda Allen of Homerville, Byron Stalvey of Homerville, Bunky Moore and his wife Peggy of Homerville, Gina Taylor and her husband Eddie of Nashville, GA; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Liz Henck and her husband Benny of Bryceville, FL, Gwen Griffis and her husband Tommy of Waycross, Patsy Strickland and her husband Henry of Waycross, Mary Sue Mixon of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Jerry Murphy, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A graveside service will be held Friday morning at 11 am at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p m at the funeral home.
