Homerville, GA Mrs. Melva Viru Delk Griffis, 84, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 in the Clinch HealthCare Center, following an extended illness. Mrs. Griffis was born Oct. 11, 1928 in Clinch County, GA to the late Tharp Edward Delk and Mary Jane Herrin Delk and had lived in Clinch County all of her life. She was a homemaker, and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pearson Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband: William Franklin Griffis; two sons: Billy Franklin Griffis & Ted Wayne Griffis; three sisters: Rosa Lee Smith, Ollie Mae Swearingen & Edna Fitchett; and three brothers: T. E. Delk, A.V. Delk and George Raymond Delk. Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law: Evelyn Viru & Donnie Carter, Alma, GA; six sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby Merle & Gloria Griffis, Townsend, MA, Eddie & Brenda Griffis, Tiny & Janie Griffis, Stanley & Loretta Griffis all of Homerville, Ray & Jackie Conner and Donnie & Gloria Conner, Sylvania, GA; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Roy Lucas Delk and Henry Bruce & Carolyn Delk, both of Homerville and Ed Rivers & Hazel Delk, Lake City, FL; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mrs. Griffis will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at eleven o’clock from the Chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Guest Mill Pond (Lang Country Church) Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
