Homerville, GA Mrs. Myrtle Bennett Whittington, 79, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 in the Clinch HealthCare, following an extended illness. Mrs. Whittington was born Nov. 2, 1933 in DuPont, GA to the late William Matthew Bennett and Annie Bell McRae Bennett. She was a member of the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church and had worked at Acme Pharmacy. She was preceded in death by her husband: Horace Jefferson Whittington; two sisters, Ethelle Smith and Winona Kinnon; two brothers: Dixon Bennett and Rudolph Bennett. Survivors are one daughter and a son-in-law: Gail & Ronnie Gilliard, Homerville; two sons and daughters-in-law: Glynn “Weasel” & Lynn Whittington, Homerville and Billy & Deborah Whittington, Valdosta; one brother and sister-in-law: Dempsey & Janice Bennett, Homerville; six grandchildren: Chris & Stacy Kendrick, Roy & Michelle Burkett, Zack & Gigi Kendrick, Shanna Lankford, Jeff Whittington and Annie Whittington; five great grandchildren: Zoe Kendrick, Ivy Kendrick, Brooks Burkett, Baylee Burkett and Auden Lankford; and a number of other relatives and a special caregiver and sister-in-law: Ruth Zencik. Funeral services for Mrs. Whittington were held Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at two o’clock from the Shiloh Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Officiating was Rev. Keith Chauncey and Rev. Talmadge Guess. Interment was in the Shiloh Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Tony Mikell, George Hughes, Paul Chauncey, Damon Chauncey, Deanie Hill and Curtis Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were Shiloh Ladies Prayer Band, Acme Pharmacy employees, Clinch HealthCare Employees and Clinch Memorial Employees. Carthel Guess sang Beulah Land and Danny Holmes sang Go Rest High On That Mountain and I Can Only Imagine. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.roundtreefuneralhome.net.
