Hazel Jean Thornton Brown February 25, 1948 – August 31, 2011 DuPont, GA Mrs. Hazel Jean Thornton Brown, 63, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, following a brief illness. Mrs. Brown, was born Feb. 25, 1948 in Lakeland, GA. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her father, William Thornton, mother, Hazel Brogdon Thornton Plair and step-father, Randall Plair and one brother, Dennis Ray Thornton. Survivors are her husband: Herman Brown, DuPont; two daughters and sons-in-law: Tammy & Randy Griffin, Valdosta and Regina & Norris Mattox, Homerville; one son & daughter-in-law, Allen & Dawn Brown, Homerville; seven grandchildren: Brooke Griffin & Lance Lehman, Valdosta, Morgan Mattox, Homerville, Kaylee Griffin, Valdosta, Dillon Mattox, Homerville, Darcee Anna Brown, Homerville, Taylor Griffin, Valdosta and Dane Allen Brown, Homerville; two brothers & sisters-in-law: Russell & Mary Lou Thornton and Roy & Beatrice Thornton, all of Lakeland, GA several nieces, nephews and other relatives.. Services for Mrs. Brown will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at two o’clock from the Homerville Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in the North Cemetery, DuPont. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Roundtree Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
