Jeanette Lanier Griffis August 9, 1925 - June 20, 2011 Mrs. Jeanette Lanier Griffis, 85, of Fargo, Georgia, entered the presence of the Lord after a sudden illness, Monday, June 20, 2011, at 1:30 a.m. in the Clinch Memorial Hospital Comfort Care Hospice with her family at her side. Mrs. Griffis was born, August 9, 1925 in Clinch County, the only daughter of the late, Josh and Leota Leviton Lanier. Her grandparents were the late Benjamin Leviton and Isabella “Belle” Burnett. She was a member of the Edith Baptist Church. She received her education at Clinch County High School. She loved to study her Bible, needlework and cooking. She truly loved her family, her church and her community. For the last twenty five years she hosted a community Bible study and Prayer group at her home each week. The three words that describe her are Faith, Family and Friends. She was a precious “Mama” to her children and a loving “Dede” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She truly left a legacy of love that will remain forever in the hearts of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, John Everal “Bud” Griffis and a son, Josh Dion Griffis, Sr. Survivors are three children: John Lanier Griffis, Sr. (Emily) of Fargo, Sharon G. Cribbs (Paul), of Valdosta and Claire G. McMillan (Rev. Jimmy) of Douglas; nine grandchildren: John Griffis, Jr. (Bonnie), Emily Ann Levings (Al), Paul Cribbs, Jr., Justin Cribbs (Stacy), Jennifer Cooper (Lee), Jacob McMillan, Jim McMillan, Dion Griffis (Emily) and Wilson Griffis (Betsy); thirteen great grandchildren: Lanier Griffis, Dallas Griffis, Staten Levings, Lindsey Levings, Elizabeth Cribbs, Ainsley Cribbs, Callie Cooper, Blaine Cooper, Josh Griffis, Cade Griffis, Will Griffis, Carter Griffis and Ellie Grace Griffis, and several other relatives. Services for Mrs. Griffis will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at eleven o’clock from the Edith Baptist Church, Fargo, GA. Interment will be in the Fargo Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 21, 2011, from 6 til 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Griffis will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Edith Baptist Church Building Fund. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
