Homerville, GA Mrs. Inez Crosby Thornton, 96, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Thornton was born September 25, 1914, in Lanier County, to the late William Allen Crosby and Mattie Watson Crosby. She was the oldest member of the Homerville First Baptist Church where she was a Youth Sunday School Teacher for many years and was a member of the WMU. Mrs. Thornton sold Avon for 50+ years and was dietitian at the Clinch Memorial Hospital from 1959 until 1991. She was preceded in death by her husband: L. A. Thornton, two infant sons, one infant great grandson, six sisters and one brother. Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law: Annette & George Bowling, Doerun, GA and Carolyn Corbitt, Ambrose, GA; one son: Albert Thornton, Homerville, GA; one grandson: Al Connell, Sale City, GA; six granddaughters: Nancy & Phillip Feinberg, Valdosta, Lynn & Keith Caudell, St. Simmons, GA, Laura & John Davis, Waycross, GA, Triche Thornton, Valdosta, GA, Traycee Thornton and Teresa Thornton, both of Homerville; four great grandsons: David Bolden, Ryan Fienberg, Cameron Feinberg and Matthew Davis; four great granddaughters: Jennifer Bolden, Kaycee Gilliard, Shelby Feinberg and Mary Riley Davis; one great great granddaughter: Allie Grace Gilliard; one sister: Edith Giddens, Lakeland, GA; two special caregivers: Betty Green and Ernestine Smith; a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services for Mrs. Thornton will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at two o’clock from the Homerville First Baptist Church. Internment will be in the Lakeland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 11, 2011 from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at her son’s residence, 214 Shannon Road, Homerville, GA, at other times. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Homerville First Baptist Church or your favorite charity. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
