Kathryn Griffis Poppell

Mrs. Kathryn Griffis Poppell, 86, passed away, Jan. 22, 2011, in the Lake Haven, Heritage Health Care, Valdosta, following an extended illness. Mrs. Poppell was born March 19, 1924, in Clinch County, to the late William James “Jimmy” Griffis, Sr. and Jeronie Bazemore Griffis. She was a Portraitist as a photographer and painter and was a member of the Homerville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Poppell and a brother, William James Griffis, Jr. Survivors are one daughter: Kathy M. Poppell, Valdosta, GA; one niece: Margaret Griffis, Miami Beach, FL; other relatives: Sarah Bessonette & Sally Bessonette, Valdosta, George Bessonette, Homerville and Carolyn Gibbs, Homerville and a host of friends. Memorial services for Mrs. Poppell will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at four o’clock from the Homerville United Methodist Church. Members of the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class are asked to be Honorary Pallbearers and meet at the church at 3:40 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service. Roundtree Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
